    Q:
How to install a new shift cable on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
Initially set the parking brake, block the wheels, shift the transaxle and shift control to neutral position to install a new Shift Cable. Mount both ends of the Shift Cable onto the automatic transaxle range selector lever and its Shift Cable bracket as well as onto the column or console shift control and its retainer or wiring harness clip. The shift control cable's metal end fitting needs insertion into the transaxle cable end while the molded end fittings should force together until the metal post clicks into position. Operate the adjuster clip once to slide the adjuster housing to the transaxle end fitting then position fittings until they engage and lock. Depress the adjuster clip completely to set the service position for the cable before pulling the conduit the other way for final Shift Cable adjustment. The horseshoe clip should create a flat surface with its tab during full engagement indicating proper conduit connection; otherwise the selector cable does not achieve a complete connection. Mount the Shift Cable onto its designed retainers.
