    Q:
How to replace the shift cable on Chevrolet Lumina? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Shift Cable, one should pull the parking brake, block the wheels, place the transaxle and shift control on neutral position. Attach each of the cable sections to the automatic transaxle range selector lever and Shift Cable bracket, and to the column or console shift control, and retainer, or wiring harness clip. Put in the metal end fitting of the shift control cable in the end of the transaxle cable, allowing the molded end fittings to push them together until the metal post snaps into place. Depress the adjuster clip down in order to mobilize the adjuster housing toward the transaxle end fitting, you align the end fittings to slide together until they cam and lock. Pull the conduit in the opposite direction so as to confirm the full system adjustment of the Shift Cable, fully depress the adjuster clip to lock the cable into its adjusted service position. Make sure and verify that when the horseshoe clip with the tab is fully engaged, the horseshoe clip is flush; and that the conduit is fully engaged and that the horseshoe clip with the tab will not be flush when not fully engaged. Lastly, manufacture a Shift Cable retainer and a wiring harness clip or wiring harness strap.
