    Q:
How to replace the outer CV Boot and CV Joint of the rear wheel drive shaft on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the outer joint and boot of the rear wheel drive shaft first remove of the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle and fix it to a soft jawed vice being careful not to trim the inboard or outboard boot to avoid having a damaging effect on the sealing surface. If it possess a low profile boot clamp, then remove and discard the outer boot clamp and the inner boot clamp from the CV joint boot , then remove the CV joint boot from the CV joint housing . For shafts with ear type boot clamp, the outer boot clamp and the inner boot clamp are to be removed followed by the CV joint boot being taken off from the CV joint housing. Use a hammer and wood block to eliminate the CV joint from the wheel drive shaft then use J 8059 to remove the retaining ring from the wheel drive shaft and remove the CV joint boot from the wheel drive shaft. Replace the CV joint if it lacks lubricant or is contaminated. For assembly, mount the boot and clamp on the wheel drive shaft without operation of crimping, when the boot is in contact with groove of the wheel drive shaft. Mounting the retaining ring on the wheel drive shaft, install it using J 8059 and then use J 35910 and close the boot clamp until any gap, if present, will be 2.15 mm (0.085 in). Compress the retaining ring into the groove so that the inner CV joint can be installed in such a way that it just touches the inner retaining ring. Mount the drive shaft along with the CV joint on the wheel drive shaft, using a block of wood and hammer, and put half of the lubricant inside the CV boot while another half is left inside the CV joint, wiping off any extra lubricant. Close the boot clamp with J 35910 unsubscribe, torque or ratchet wrench, and breaker bar until the gap between the stamped plate and brake pad is 1.9 mm (0.070 in). Dispose the CV joint in a circular movement 4 to 5 times to disseminate the lubricant and take away the wheel drive shaft from the vise and refit it.
