Front Cable

A proper replacement of front parking brake cables begins by properly raising and supporting the vehicle. Stretch the locknut from the park brake cable at the equalizer until there is sufficient tension. Remove the front park brake cable from the back cable connection. The J 37043 (Parking Brake Cable Release Tool) removes the front cable from the bracket once you compress the locking tabs on the cable conduit. Start by removing the left side instrument panel insulator panel in combination with the driver side front carpet retainer before removing the 2 nuts and driver footrest. Through the driver floor carpet opening front drivers will access the routing clip for the front park brake cable which allows removal of the cable from the park brake pedal clevis . You should remove the cable assembly by pressing both locking tabs located on the conduit. To put in the new front park brake cable assembly start by connecting it to the park brake pedal clevis then examine that the locking tabs on the conduit are fully in place. The cable must pass through the floor of the vehicle while inserting the pass-through grommet before placing the routing clip on the floor stud. Place back the driver floor carpet along with the footrest before tightening both nuts to 10 Nm (89 lb in). The driver side front carpet retainer and left side instrument panel insulator panel must be installed after connecting the park brake warning indicator switch electrical connector. The front segment of the park brake cable should be attached to the bracket with its conduit tabs securely locked in before joining the rear cable while performing park brake adjustments.

You need to raise the vehicle for changing the front parking brake cable. The first step involves slackening the locknut on the park brake cable by the equalizer followed by disconnecting the front cable from the rear cable. The J 37043 (Parking Brake Cable Release Tool) enables front cable extraction from its bracket when the locking tabs on the cable conduit are compressed. The removal process starts by taking out the left instrument panel insulator panel with the addition of removing the driver side front carpet retainer and extracting both nuts and the driver footrest. Accessibility to the front park brake cable routing clip requires lifting the driver floor carpet so you can disable the cable attachment to the park brake pedal clevis by removing the clip from the floor stud. Uninstall the conduit cable assembly while depressing the locking tabs on its attachment point. The front new park brake cable assembly must be placed in position with the park brake pedal clevis connected to complete the process while verifying full tab engagement on the conduit. Pass the cable through the floor before seating the grommet while attaching the routing clip to its floor stud. The new driver floor carpet with footrest installation should include torquing the 2 nuts to 10 Nm (89 lb in). The park brake warning indicator switch electrical connector should be reconnected then the driver side front carpet retainer and the left side instrument panel insulator panel must be reinstalled. Complete the front park brake cable installation by connecting it to the bracket through engaged conduit locking tabs before connecting and final adjustment of the park brake.

Compress the park brake cable spring and install the park brake cable to the cable bracket, ensuring the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged.

Remove the park brake equalizer locknut and release the park brake cable from the park brake cable bracket by compressing the locking tabs on the cable conduit.

Install the park brake cable to the park brake cable bracket and ensure the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged.

Raise and support the vehicle, then loosen the park brake cable locknut at the equalizer to relieve tension.

Loosen the park brake equalizer locknut without removing it, then disconnect the front park brake cable from the right park brake cable.

Install the park brake cable to the park brake cable bracket, ensuring the locking tabs are fully engaged.

Release the park brake and raise and support the vehicle.

Ensure the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged.
