Intermediate Cable

You should first release the park brake before raising and supporting the vehicle when replacing the Parking Brake Intermediate Cable on rear disc brake models. The park brake cable needs unloading by pulling the front section of cable before vehicle owners can remove the cables from the equalizer bar in all 15 series vehicles. Disable the automatic adjuster of park brake cables on 25/35 series vehicles before disconnecting both the front and rear components of the intermediate cable for total removal from the vehicle. The new intermediate cable needs to be linked to the front cable and to the rear park brake cable for vehicles of the 25/35 series. During installation of 15 series vehicles you need to first connect the rear park brake cables to the equalizer before proceeding to attach the equalizer and its nut onto the threaded part of the intermediate cable while properly tightening the nut to 3.5 Nm(31 inch lbs.). The automatic adjuster should be enabled for parking brake cables in vehicles belonging to the 25/35 series. After removing the safety stands the vehicle should be lowered while also performing a park brake system adjustment.

Start the replacement of the left side parking brake rear cable (with rear drum) by first releasing the park brake and then using a suitable lift and support mechanism for the vehicle. A person should release stress on the park brake cables by tugging on the front park brake cable near the equalizer. Start by taking out the left rear park brake cable from the equalizer bar before detaching the park brake cable from frame bracket and guides. The backing plate needs to be removed from the vehicle by first disengaging the park brake cable through the park brake cable release tool (J 37043). To begin installation you should position your park brake cable into the area of the backing plate before installing your rear brake shoes. Proceed by guiding the park brake cable into the frame bracket alongside its guides before you complete the left rear cable installation to the equalizer bar. Lower the vehicle while performing the appropriate adjustment to the park brake.

Attach the park brake cable and bolt to the lower shock absorber mount, tightening it to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Snap the retainer tabs into the body mount, connect the front cable to the intermediate cable, and route the cable through the floor pan to engage the grommet.

Remove the safety stands, lower the vehicle, and adjust the park brake cable.

Use the Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043) to remove the park brake cable after removing the rear brake shoes.

Remove the rear brake shoes and use the Park Brake Cable Release Tool (J37043) to take out the park brake cable.

Depress the locking tabs and then remove it at the shock absorber bracket by taking out the bolt.

Pull down on the park brake cable in front of the equalizer and install the left park brake cable to the equalizer bar.

First, release the park brake and remove the park brake pedal.

Pull down on the front park brake cable just in front of the equalizer.

Disconnect the intermediate cable from the front cable and remove the intermediate cable from the vehicle.

Install the rear park brake cable bracket bolt and tighten it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).

Attach the park brake cable to the backing plate.

Disengage the grommet and the cable from the floor pan, and disconnect the front cable from the intermediate cable.

Disconnect the right park brake cable from the equalizer bar.

The Park Brake Cable Release Tool (J37043).

Insert the new brake cable into the rear brake cable mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place.

Ensure the locking tabs are fully engaged, then connect the left rear park brake cable to the intermediate cable connector.

Pull down on the park brake cable in front of the equalizer and remove the cables from the equalizer bar.

Pull it down in front of the equalizer and disconnect the left park brake cable from the equalizer bar.

Enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster, remove the safety stands, lower the vehicle, and adjust the park brake system.

Connect the left park brake cable to the intermediate park brake cable connector, followed by connecting the front park brake cable to the same connector.
