Rear Cable

One should start the right side parking brake rear cable replacement by releasing the park brake then lifting and supporting the vehicle. Release the park brake equalizer locknut while keeping it intact before disconnecting the front park brake cable from the right park brake cable. The locking tabs on the cable conduit require compression to free the park brake cable from the park brake equalizer. Two park brake cable bracket bolts mounted atop the crossmember above the rear suspension module need removing before unconnecting the park brake cable eyelet from the park brake actuator. You must compress the locking tabs on the conduit after pulling the park brake cable toward the front while compressing the cable spring. Once this step is done, you can remove the cable from both the cable bracket and pass it through guide channels to remove it from the vehicle. When installing the park brake cable position it over the rear suspension module before connecting the eyelet to the park brake actuator. Put tension on the park brake cable spring by compressing it then mount the cable to the cable bracket while verifying full engagement of the cable conduit locking tabs. Twist and secure the two bracket bolts on the park brake cable with 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque. The installation will involve attaching the park brake cable through its cable guides before positioning it on the equalizer and then linking the front park brake cable to the right park brake cable. Follow these steps to install the park brake cable onto the equalizer while making sure all locking tabs on cable conduit connect properly. Terminate the park brake equalizer locknut installation but maintain it loose before performing the park brake adjustment.

Start cable replacement for the left side parking brake rear by freeing the brake then supporting and raising the vehicle. The operator must remove the park brake equalizer locknut then free the park brake cable from the park brake cable bracket by pressing the cable conduit locking tabs. The process begins with unfastening the park brake cable attachment points from both the bracket and the equalizer before separating the park brake cable eyelet from the park brake actuator. Start by compressing the locking tabs before pulling the park brake cable conduit forward until the spring compresses. Afterward, remove the cable from its cable bracket while pulling it forwards through the guides. To install the park brake cable position its end through the guides before attaching the eyelet to the actuator component. Place the park brake cable spring in a compressed state before mounting the park brake cable onto the cable bracket with complete cable conduit engagement of locking tabs. Secure the park brake cable onto the park brake cable bracket by fully engaging its locking tabs on the cable conduit before linking it with the equalizer. Start by installing the park brake equalizer locknut loosely and proceed with park brake adjustment.

Loosely install the park brake equalizer locknut and adjust the park brake.

Remove the park brake equalizer locknut, then compress the locking tabs on the cable conduit to release the park brake cable.

Use the J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool.

Lift the driver floor carpet to access the front park brake cable routing clip and release it from the floor stud.

Disconnect the front park brake cable from the rear park brake cable and remove it from the park brake cable bracket on the body by compressing the locking tabs on the cable conduit.

Install the park brake cable to the park brake equalizer, ensuring the locking tabs on the cable conduit are fully engaged, then loosely install the park brake equalizer locknut and adjust the park brake as needed.

Lift the driver floor carpet.
