Fan Clutch

Before replacing the Fan Clutch, check that the cooling fan assembly isn't damaged. On 6.5l engines you need to use the j 41240-5a and the same tools as with other engines. After removing the bolts, disconnect the fan from the clutch. Connect the fan to the clutch, joining the fan bolts to the clutch basehook mechanism while paying close attention to the instructions printed next to the bolts. Tighten the fan to clutch bolts to 33 nm (24 ft. Lbs.) using 4.3l, 5.0l, 5.7l and 8.1l models and tighten them to 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) with the 6.5l diesel engine. Join the fan to the clutch again for the 4.3l, 5.0l, 5.7l or 8.1l models by using the j41240 and tightening the Fan Clutch nut to 57 nm (42 ft. Lb.). Similarly, for the 6.5l engine, connect the fan and clutch by using both j41240-5a and j41240, ensuring you torque the fan to clutch bolts evenly to 57 nm (42 ft. Lb.). Afterwards, replace the upper radiator shroud, coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank and the air cleaner and duct.

Two necessary tools for Fan Clutch maintenance include Fan Clutch wrench and spanner (J 41240) together with Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240-5A). You should begin by taking away the air cleaner and duct before moving to the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank and then the upper radiator shroud from the radiator. The Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240) and its corresponding prongs (J 41240-1) should be used to remove the Fan Clutch assembly from the Water Pump Pulley holes of 4.3l, 5.0l, 5.7l, and 8.1l engines. Remove the Fan Clutch assembly from the 6.5l Water Pump Pulley by using the Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240-5A) and the prongs of the j 41240-1 which should be placed in the holes of the pump pulley. Proceed by removing all retaining bolts from the fan along with the clutch and then separate the fan from the clutch. Start installation by properly attaching the fan to the clutch according to the fastener notice in service precautions. Put in the retaining bolts to the fan with clutch and tighten these bolts to 33 nm (24 ft. Lbs.) for 4.3l, 5.0l, 5.7l, and 8.1l engines and to 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) for the 6.5l diesel engine. You should reinstall the fan assembly on 4.3l, 5.0l, 5.7l, and 8.1l vehicles with the Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240) while torquing the Fan Clutch nut to 57 nm (42 ft. Lbs.). When working with the 6.5l diesel engine use both Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240-5A) along with Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240) before completing the process by tightening the Fan Clutch nut to 57 nm (42 ft. Lbs.). The last steps require the installation of upper radiator shroud followed by coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank together with air cleaner and duct.

The Fan Clutch repair requires both j 41240 Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240) and j 41240-5a Fan Clutch wrench (J 41240-5A) as essential service tools. Start by detaching the air cleaner together with the duct before proceeding with removal of the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank followed by the upper Radiator shroud from the Radiator. Service and repair of the fan and clutch requires the j 41240 wrench for 4.3l, 5.0l, and 5.7l engines when maintaining control of the pulley with a spanner. The installation of fan clutches on both the 6.5l engine uses the combination of j 41240-5a and the j 41240 spanner. The fan requires separation from the clutch after removing all retaining bolts. Attach the fan to the clutch according to the fastener notice while performing installation steps. Use j 41240 when working on 4.3l, 5.0l and 5.7l fans to clutch bolts while tightening to 33 nm (24 ft. Lbs.) before securing the bolts. J 41240-5a properly installs 6.5l diesel fans to clutch bolts using 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) torque. Install the fan and clutch for 4.3l, 5.0l and 5.7l engines through the j 41240 or use the j 41240-5a and j 41240 for 6.5l engines to tighten the nut to 57 nm (42 ft. Lbs.). You should finish the repair by reinstallation of the upper Radiator shroud followed by the coolant recovery reservoir or surge tank and the air cleaner with duct.
