Compressor Clutch

First remove the compressor and replace the three adjustable dowels from the j37872 universal spanner wrench (J37872) with three 5/16 x 1 inch bolts. During clutch plate removal, use j37872 to stop the clutch plate from turning before removing the bolt. Begin by using the j6083 snap ring pliers (J6083) to remove snap rings from the compressor pulley then the pulley and finally the compressor clutch coil snap ring until the clutch coil detaches itself. The installation process requires emptying debris from the clutch plate bolt threads after cleaning them with m6x1.0 tap and following up with compressed air. Use the j6083 tool to position the compressor clutch coil before installing the snap ring of the clutch coil. Install the compressor pulley and its snap ring using the j6083. Place a small drop of oil on the 0.4 mm (0.016 in) air gap shim before installing the compressor clutch plate while making sure the drive plate does not contact the pulley. Use appropriate shims to measure the pulley-to-drive plate air gap precisely at 0.3-0.6 mm (0.012-0.024 in). Use the j37872 to secure the compressor clutch plate from rotating during bolt installation of the new clutch drive plate which must have visible colored adhesive on its first five threads before you tighten it to 12 n.m (9 lb ft). Complete the installation process by replacing the compressor while also using the j39400-a to test for leaks in the fittings.

Use the Snap Ring Pliers (J 6083) to remove the compressor clutch coil snap ring and then the compressor clutch coil.

Measure the air gap between the pulley and the drive plate, adjusting the shims to achieve a 0.3-0.6 mm (0.012-0.024 in) air gap, ensuring the drive plate does not drag against the pulley when rotated.
