Console Base

You must begin by removing the console storage compartment followed by the console trim plate and ashtray so you can continue. Drive the vehicle information switch while simultaneously removing the radio and a/c controls. Remove both fasteners keeping the console attached to the floor while you disconnect the four fasteners keeping it secured to the instrument panel. Turn the console air supply duct to release it while removing the 2 fasteners which secure the upper shift plate and shifter. Detach electrical console connectors before taking out the console assembly from the vehicle. Position the console into the vehicle before attaching electrical connectors for installation. First install the shifter before adding the 2 retainers for the upper shift plate. To reattach the console blower air supply duct just turn it until it pushes onto the duct body. When installing the console mount fasteners tighten them to 6 n.m (53 lb in) while securing the instrument panel. The rear floor mount fasteners should also be installed at 24 n.m (18 lb in) to finish the mounting. Reinstall the radio/heater and a/c control assembly before installing the driver information switch and the ashtray. Finish the installation with storage compartment and console trim plate insertion.

Begin console replacement (D55) by first removing the storage compartment followed by disconnecting three electrical connectors from the left inner Center Console area. You need to start by taking out the console trim plate together with the ashtray and driver information switch. Start by uninstalling the radio and a/c control assembly followed by removing two fasteners holding the console to the floor and four fasteners holding it to the instrument panel. End the console air supply duct through turning its release mechanism before removing the tie band. Remove all electrical connectors between the console unit and the auto transmission park lock cable as well as the auto transmission range selector lever cable and the btsi electrical connector. Pay attention to the metal brackets so they do not damage vehicle upholstery when taking them off. Pull the console rearward at the same time as lifting it upward until you can remove it from the vehicle before moving essential components. Extract the shift assembly component from the console frame. The installation process requires connection of the shift assembly to the console followed by the console's return to its vehicle position. Guide the three electrical connectors through the left opening in the Center Console and finish their installation. Reattach the console blower air supply duct while fastening it with the tie strap. Fasten the 4 mounting screws onto the console-instrument panel interface, torque them to 6 n.m (53 lb in) while adding the 2 foot-facing screws with a torque recommendation of 24 n.m (18 lb ft). Connect the auto transmission park lock cable and the auto transmission range selector lever cable to the shift plate bracket, while also attaching the btsi electrical connector. Step through the reinstall process starting with the radio/heater and a/c control assembly followed by the driver information switch then ashtray before finishing with the console trim plate and storage compartment.

Tighten them to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).
