    Q:
How to properly handle the Brake Drum replacement process on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
First lift the vehicle and set it on stands before taking off the tire and wheel unit. Take out the brake retainer parts before taking the Brake Drum off. When the Brake Drum resists removal you can fix the shoes at rest by unplugging the rubber adjuster access hole under the Wheel Cylinder on the backing plate. You can replace the Brake Drum more easily by using a small tool to contact and push down the adjuster lever through its access hole while another tool enters the top of the hole to grab adjuster teeth. Put light pressure inward on the first tool while using the second tool to rotate the adjuster counterclockwise until the brake shoes move back and make it possible to remove the Brake Drum. Use the j-42450-a (Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit) to scrape off dirt and corrosion from both Brake Drum and rear axle flange contact areas. Set the rear drum brakes before putting on the Brake Drum which gets followed by wheel and tire reinstallation.

    Q:
How to replace the brake drum on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
To swap the Brake Drum start by getting these items: drum to Brake Shoe clearance gagecautiously number 22364-01) and Wheel Hub resurfacing kit component j 42450-a. Lift the vehicle then take off the rear tire and wheel parts from the vehicle. Before you remove the rear Brake Drum put penetrating oil onto the wheel studs axle hub and Brake Drum. Also put oil on the Brake Drum retainer. To make the Brake Drum easier to remove you should take out the rubber plug from the backing plate and apply a screwdriver with two contact points on the adjuster lever. Push the small actuator lever away and rotate the adjuster upward until it is seated using a second screwdriver. Use the Wheel Hub resurfacing kit j 42450-a to clear the connection area between the rear axle flange and Brake Drum. Before lowering the vehicle put on the Brake Drum plus tire and wheel assembly but first adjust and measure the rear brake shoes with the specified gage.

    Q:
How to replace the brake drum on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
There is no need to put the accelerator down. Simply shift down with the brake on and continue to hold on to the steering wheel until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Remove the Brake Drum retainers and Brake Drum. If the Brake Drum does not come off easily, retract the brake shoes by removing the rubber adjuster access hole plug at the bottom of the Wheel Cylinder on the rear Brake Backing Plate. Use a small flat bladed tool in through the access hole slightly angled downward and get contact with the adjuster lever and insert a second tool straight in above the first tool to get contact with the adjuster teeth. While gently pressing the first tool, turn the adjuster counter-clockwise with the help of the second tool against the adjuster teeth to retract the brake shoes and be able to remove the Brake Drum. Clean up accumulated dirt or base corrosion on the Brake Drum and the rear axle flange mating surfaces with the help of the j-42450-a (Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit). Now, adjust the rear drum brakes then install the Brake Drum finally and reinstall the tire and wheel assemble.

    Q:
How to service and repair the brake drum on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin services and repairs of brake drums through proper preparation with a Rotor Resurfacing Kit (J 41013). Doing brake drum refinishing should always remain forbidden to handle problems linked to brake noise (growl/squeal), excessive brake lining damage, surface rust or cosmetic drum problems. Start the refurbishment process only when deep scoring on the drum braking surface surpasses its manufacturer's limits or disk-braking vibrations develop due to crooked drums along with their high side-to-side wobble measurements plus severe surface rust. If the brake drum measures beyond its maximum diameter using a micrometer replace the part rather than refinishing it. Use Rotor Resurfacing Kit J 41013 or an alternative tool to properly remove all rust from the brake drum flange. Follow brake lathe manufacturer directions to refurbish the brake drum because poor braking surface quality creates vehicle stopping problems. Use 120 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper to create an undirected brake surface before cleaning the surfaces with brake parts cleaner (GM P/N 12377981 or Canadian P/N 10953463) or similar product.
