    Q:
How to service and repair the tie rod end on Chevrolet Tracker? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to service and repair the tie rod end involves vehicle lifting and support while performing the work. Start by removing the tire and wheel assembly followed by taking off the outer tie rod nut from the knuckle. The Universal Steering Linkage Puller (J24319-B) should be used to disconnect the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Before disassembling the inner tie rod end remove paint from the lock nut position. Next loosen this nut without tightening it to remove the outer tie rod end. Check the condition of the outer tie rod ball joint. You should replace the outer tie rod end when found necessary. The first step for installation requires the tie rod lock nut to be positioned on the match mark of the inner tie rod without tightening it and next the outer tie rod end should be attached to the inner tie rod. The driver should support the outer tie rod end with a jack while tightening its nut to stop the ball stud from rotating. Install the outer tie rod end on the knuckle before tightening it with the outer tie rod nut at 43 Nm (31.5 ft. lbs.). After reinstalling the tire assembly along with the wheel check the wheel alignment measurements and adjust the toe when needed. To conclude the procedure the tie rod lock nut requires a torque setting of 65 Nm (47 ft. lbs.) before performing a vehicle drop.
