    Q:
How to replace the alternator on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for generator replacement requires users to disconnect the battery negative cable. You must remove the Drive Belt before you raise the vehicle for just enough clearance to reach the A/C Compressor through the wheelhouse. Start by removing the left front wheel followed by the left wheelhouse liner. Disconnect the A/C Compressor electrical connector from its bracket position without needing to evacuate the a/c refrigerant. Take off the A/C Compressor mounting bolts yet hold the upper mounting bolt so it stays connected to the A/C Compressor. Access to the generator output bat terminal requires vehicle lowering while moving the protective boot into position. Unscrew the generator output bat terminal nut to disconnect the generator lead from the generator. Break the generator wiring harness connector loose from the unit and use a torque wrench to remove all three generator mounting bolts. Illusions of the engine lift bracket must disappear for generator clearance and proceeding to shift the A/C Compressor into a forward position for generator extraction. The generator must be extracted from its engine slot. Place the generator on the engine's position before installing the engine lift bracket. Fasten the generator mounting bolts using a sequence starting from 50 n.m (37 lbft) torque. The generator lead requires connection to the generator while you apply 20 n.m of torque (15 lb ft) to secure the generator output bat terminal nut. The generator output bat terminal needs its protective boot pressed into place while the wiring harness connector gets connected to the generator. Position the A/C Compressor by raising the vehicle a final time before installing and tightening the compressor mounting bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Fasten the A/C Compressor electrical connector to the bracket following left wheelhouse liner and left front wheel reinstallation. After installing the Drive Belt proceed with reconnecting the battery negative cable while lowering the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the alternator on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the generator by detaching the battery negative cable first then removing the Drive Belt. Crawl under the vehicle to position it in a raised position with support until you can reach the A/C Compressor through the wheelhouse. After removing the left front wheel and liner on the left side of the wheelhouse you will be able to access the compressor. Inspect the a/c electrical connector at its bracket placement before detaching the connector not requiring a/c refrigerant removal. Unscrew the two A/C Compressor mounting bolts (2, 3) while keeping mounting bolt 3 secured to the A/C Compressor body. The vehicle requires a descent before moving the protective boot away from generator output bat terminal to obtain access. First separate the generator output bat terminal nut before discharging the generator lead from the generator. Then disconnect the wiring harness connector from the generator. Clearance for generator removal requires the uninstallation of three mounting bolts and the engine lift bracket. Courtesy of the A/C Compressor being positioned forward you can remove the generator from its engine housing. During installation place the generator in front of the engine and install the engine lift bracket yet always follow the noted fastener specifications. Screw the generator mounting bolts in sequence to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque. Attach the generator lead to its location and torque the generator output bat terminal nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Secure the protective boot over the generator output bat terminal while you connect the wiring harness connector to the generator. Follow the fastener notice while raising and supporting the vehicle. Position the A/C Compressor on the engine and install the A/C Compressor mounting bolts in positions (2, 3) before tightening them to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). When finished align the A/C Compressor electrical connector with the bracket before installing the left wheelhouse liner and left front wheel. Complete the installation by lowering the vehicle, installing the Drive Belt before reattaching the battery negative cable.
