To change the generator, unhook the negative Battery Cable, remove the sight shield on the intake manifold, and accessory Drive Belt. Remove the generator jumper cables from the generator stud by releasing the generator battery jumper cable nut and terminal, and repositioning the generator battery jumper cable boot. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the generator. Next, unfasten the bolts of the generator and pull out the generator. For installation, bring generator back in position and tighten the generator bolts with 55 n.m (41 lb ft). Crank the generator battery jumper cable terminal to the generator stud and tighten it with the nut of a battery jumper cable, using a 9 n.m (80 lb in) torque. Position the generator battery jumper cable boot, reconnect the engine harness electrical connector to the generator (Fig. 4) and reinstall the accessory Drive Belt and intake manifold sight shield. Lastly, reconnect the negative Battery Cable.

The llv/llr generator replacement (2.9L/3.7L) must start with negative Battery Cable disconnection. Extract the Drive Belt and lift the vehicle for wheelhouse entry to the compressor. Lift up the vehicle and remove both the left front wheel and left wheelhouse liner. The process lacks requirements to evacuate a/c refrigerant so disconnect the A/C Compressor electrical connector. After disconnecting all bolts that secure the A/C Compressor except for the upper one keep the compressor attached lower the vehicle. The generator output bat terminal boot needs repositioning to expose the terminal before removing the terminal nut and separatiing the generator lead. Unplug the generator's wiring harness connector after that remove its three mounting bolts. Start by taking out the engine lift bracket to get clearance then move the A/C Compressor forward and finish by removing the generator from the engine. Operate by placing the generator in front of the engine after installing the engine lift bracket. Install the generator mounting bolts by following a sequence to achieve 50 nm (37 lb ft) torque values. Install the generator output bat terminal nut which must be tightened to 20 nm (15 lb ft) before pressing the protective boot onto the bat terminal. After connecting the wiring harness connector to the generator you can begin working on the A/C Compressor. Use the vehicle supports to reach the compressor then move it to the engine position allowing you to install and tighten the 50 nm (37 lb ft) mounting bolts. Reinstall the left wheelhouse liner along with the left front wheel while connecting the A/C Compressor electrical connector. The technician must lower the vehicle before installing the Drive Belt universal to the engine design then reconnect the battery negative lead.

Before changing a generator in a 4.3l engine, you have to disconnect the negative cable of the battery. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator and belt drive. Remove the A/C Compressor/condenser hose bracket bolt and loosen the clip that holds the engine wiring harness onto the A/C Compressor/condenser hose bracket. Next, remove the heater outlet hose clamp bolt bolt at the generator bracket as well as remove the engine wire harness electrical connector from the generator. In response, you repose the engine wiring harness boot and eliminate the engine wiring harness nut and lead from the generator. Unbolt the generator and move the heater outlet and a/c hoses accordingly to pull out the generator from the bracket. During installation, mount the new generator into the bracket, set the hoses and bolt the generator to the bracket with 50 nm (37 lb ft) (Turney, DiFazio, Thompson, n.d.). Reinstall the engine wiring harness lead and the nut putting the nut on 9 nm (80 lb in), then bringing the wiring harness boot over the generator stud and connecting the electrical connector. Install the heater outlet hose clamp bolt by tightening it to 25 nm (18 lb ft), followed by the A/C Compressor and condenser hose bracket bolt tightened to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Reattach the engine wiring harness clip, as well as the Drive Belt and the air cleaner outlet resonator. Finally, reconnect the negative cable of the battery.

The first step towards generator replacement starts by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. First step involves separating both the intake manifold sight shield together with the accessory Drive Belt. The generator requires a disconnected engine harness electrical connector and the generator battery jumper cable boot must be repositioned. Begin the replacement process by removing the battery jumper cable nut then its terminal from the generator stud. Afterward install the generator bolts to retrieve the generator unit. Place the battery jumper cable boot followed by installing the engine harness electrical connector to the generator. Install the accessory Drive Belt together with the intake manifold sight shield before reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.

Disconnect the negative Battery Cable before removing the air cleaner outlet resonator, for changing the generator for a 4.3l engine. Then remove the Drive Belt together with removing the engine wiring harness clip from the A/C Compressor/condenser hose bracket and removing the A/C Compressor and condenser hose bracket bolt. Disengage heater outlet hose clamp bolt at the generator bracket, release generator electrical connector from the engine wiring harness, then reposition the boot on engine wiring harness. Unfasten the engine wiring harness nut from the generator and the engine wiring harness lead from the generator stud. Then remove the generator bolts and reset the heater outlet and the A/C Compressor/condenser hoses to take out the generator from the generator bracket. For installation, position the generator into the generator bracket and adjust the heater outlet and A/C Compressor/condenser hoses per your requirement. Mount the generator bolts and snug them up tight using a 50 n.m (37 lb ft) tightening torque. Connect the lead of the engine wiring harness to the generator stud and fasten the engine wiring harness nut to the generator, tightening to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Put on the engine wire harness boot over the generator stud & hook the engine wiring harness electric connector to the generator. Mount the heater outlet hose clamp bolt at the generator bracket, securing at 25 n.m (18 lb ft), then the A/C Compressor and condenser hose bracket bolt at the same torque. To reinstall the engine wiring harness clip to the A/C Compressor/condenser hose bracket as well as the Drive Belt, reinstall the air cleaner outlet resonator and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.

To remove the generator (LLV/LLR) (2.9L, 3.7L), start with disconnecting the battery negative cable. Removing the Drive Belt and lifting the vehicle to a level whereby you can have access to pass the A/C Compressor through the wheelhouse. There is no need to vacate the a/c refrigerant when you can get the left front wheel and the left wheelhouse liner out, then loosen the A/C Compressor connection from a bracket. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting bolt, while leaving the upper mounting bolt with the A/C Compressor. Lower the vehicle and move the protective boot from the generator output bat terminal to allow access. Disconnect the generator lead from the generator and disconnect the wiring harness connector; detach the generator output bat terminal nut. Disconnect the three mounting bolts of the generator and engine lift bracket to provide space for the generator. Shift the A/C Compressor toward the front to facilitate generator removal, and then remove the generator off the engine. For installation, stand the generator to the engine and install the engine lift bracket. Mount the generator bolts and tighten them in a sequence of 50 nm (37 lb ft). Attach the generator lead to the generator and mount the generator output bat terminal nut into 20 nm (15 lb ft). Push on the protective boot to the generator output bat terminal and attach the wiring harness connector to the generator. Lift up the vehicle again to align the A/C Compressor to the engine then install the A/C Compressor mounting bolts and secure with 50 nm (37 lb ft). Connect the A/C Compressor electrical connector to the bracket, then reinstall left wheelhouse liner, and the left front wheel. Reduce vehicle, set up the Drive Belt and lastly rejoin the battery negative cable.

Before generator replacement start by disconnecting the negative cable of the battery. Begin by removing the intake manifold sight shield followed by the accessory Drive Belt. Start by disconnecting the engine harness electrical connector that serves the generator before placing the generator battery jumper cable boot into position. First remove the generator bolts then unfasten the battery jumper cable terminal from the generator stud and battery jumper cable nut before extracting the generator component. Place the generator into position before securing bolts to 55 nm (41 lb ft). The generator battery jumper cable terminal should be reconnected to the generator stud followed by securing the battery jumper cable nut to the generator while maintaining torque setting at 9 nm (80 lb in). Secure the battery jumper cable boot in position while joining the engine harness electrical connector to the generator. Finalize your work by installing the accessory Drive Belt and intake manifold sight shield and reinstate the negative Battery Cable.

A v8 engine requires the removal of the negative Battery Cable during generator replacement. You should begin by removing both the intake manifold sight shield along with the accessory Drive Belt. Secondly, disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the generator and move the generator battery jumper cable boot to its new position. Before removing the generator, start by disassembling the generator battery jumper cable nut along with the terminal from the generator stud and the generator bolts to extract the component. Loosen the existing generator bolts before placing a new generator in position and ensure it is securely in place. Tighten the generator bolts while maintaining a torque of 55 nm (41 lb ft). You should attach the generator battery jumper cable terminal to the generator stud while tightening the nut to 9 nm (80 lb in). Put the jumper cable boot on the generator battery terminal while joining the engine harness electrical connector to the generator. After installing the accessory Drive Belt and intake manifold sight shield, reestablish the vehicle's negative battery connection.

Slide the boot down to reveal the terminal stud, remove the generator cable nut from the terminal stud, and then take off the generator cable.

Reattach the engine wiring harness lead to the generator stud and secure the nut to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

Remove the auxiliary generator bolts and take out the auxiliary generator.

Remove the heater outlet hose clamp bolt at the generator bracket.
