2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Alternator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the alternator in a V6 engine on 2010 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: The battery power needs to be disconnected as the first step toward generator replacement in v6 engines. First separate the air cleaner outlet resonator and Drive Belt from the system. Begin by detaching the engine wiring harness clip from the A/C Compressor/condenser hose bracket then remove the A/C Compressor and condenser hose bracket bolt. Beginning with the heater outlet hose clamp bolt removal from the generator bracket you must then disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector that attaches to the generator and carefully position the engine wiring harness boot. Begin by removing two components: the engine wiring harness nut and the lead wire from the generator stud. Offline the generator bolts then adjust the heater outlet and A/C Compressor/condenser hoses for successful generator bracket extraction. To install the generator properly fit the component into the bracket then install the hoses before installing generator bolts while tightening them to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Screw the engine wiring harness lead onto the generator stud while tightening the nut to 9 nm (80 lb in). Place the engine wiring harness boot properly onto the generator stud then connect the electrical connector to the generator. Fasten the heater outlet hose clamp bolt to 25 nm (18 lb ft) and next follow with tightening the A/C Compressor and condenser hose bracket bolt to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Reinstall the engine wiring harness clip on the A/C Compressor/condenser hose bracket then put on the Drive Belt before reinstalling the air cleaner outlet resonator and reattaching the negative Battery Cable.
