    Q:
How to service and repair the muffler on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
A vehicle should be raised and properly supported to service and repair the Muffler. Take out the track bar and the back-driver tire and support the rear axle with jack stands. Then, take away the rear stabilizer bar end-link, which articulates the passenger-side rear shock from the rear axle. Loosen the rear axle-bolts of the torque arm and lower the rear axle back a bit. Pull out the passenger side rear coil spring and bushing, remove the left Exhaust Hanger off of the underbody. Remove the exhaust Muffler clamp (5.7 L shown, 3.8L similar) and lower rear axle enough to get the Muffler out by rotating and sliding it out behind the vehicle. The Exhaust Hanger(s) need to be pulled to the new Muffler at which point the exhaust Muffler is installed to the vehicle (5.7 L), (3.8 L similarly) and the rear axle lifted. Tighten the exhaust Muffler clamp bolt to 48 nm (35 ft.lbs) and install left exhaust Muffler hanger to the underbody and tighten the hanger bolts to 10nm (89 inch lbs). Install the passenger side rear coil spring and bushing and lift axle completely. Mount the torque arm bolts to the rear axle and tighten them to 130 nm (96 ft. Lbs.) and the torque arm nuts with 132 nm (97 ft. Lbs.). Attach the passenger side rear shock to rear axle by torquing the rear shock nuts to 90 nm (66 ft. Lbs.) and attach the passenger side rear stabilizer bar end link torquing the end link nut to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Take out the rear axle support, place the driver's side rear and snug the wheel nuts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.), then mount the track bar and drop the vehicle.
