    Q:
How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace automatic transmission fluid and filter requires vehicle elevation using supports. The boot portion of the range selector cable must not be pulled. The procedure to detach the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud involves using a flat-bladed tool to separate the cable end from the lever and subsequently removing the bolts securing the transmission range selector cable bracket to the transmission. Set aside the bracket for space clearance during pan lowering then place a suitable receptacle under the transmission Oil Pan. Only detach the Oil Pan bolts from the front and sides of the transmission but loosen the rear bolts by 4 turns before gently hitting the Oil Pan with a rubber mallet for drainage into the prepared container. Next disconnect the remaining Oil Pan bolts before you detach both the Oil Pan and its gasket. Squeeze the filter until downward twisting removes it, afterward dispose of the filter seal by using pliers or alternative tools if necessary. Check the fluid appearance and filter for bronze slivers or clutch material contamination as well as steel impurities. Assess both the transmission housing and Oil Pan Gasket surfaces by cleaning and drying them using solvent until all remaining gasket materials are gone. Apply automatic transmission fluid on the new filter seal before inserting it into the transmission housing while using a suitable socket for installation. You must connect both the new filter followed by the Oil Pan which uses a new gasket before you tighten the transmission case bolts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) in an alternating and balanced fashion. Place the used transmission fluid container to a safe disposal area then move the transmission range selector cable bracket onto the transmission before installing the bracket bolts while torquing them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Set the automatic transmission range selector cable and lower the vehicle before filling it with dexron iii transmission fluid at the cold fluid level during the first fill. It is necessary to check for leaks in the Oil Pan Gasket before completing the task.

    Q:
How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the automatic transmission fluid and filter replacement by raising and supporting the vehicle without touching the boot of the cable. A flat bladed instrument allows the separation of the range selector cable end from the range selector lever ball stud to disconnect them. The transmission range selector cable bracket needs its bolts removed before moving it away to create clearance for pan access. Lower the transmission Oil Pan before using a suitable container to free the front and side bolts from the pan while maintaining the rear bolts at 4 turns. A gentle application of rubber mallet force to the Oil Pan enables fluid to drain into the collection container. First disconnect every Oil Pan bolt before extracting both the Oil Pan along with its gasket. Pull the filter downward securely and twist it for removal while using pliers or suitable tool to remove stuck filter seals from the pump. Instead of inspecting the fluid color directly check for bronze slivers, clutch material and steel particles using the filter. Use solvent to clean the transmission case and Oil Pan gasket surfaces before air drying them until no remaining old gasket material exists. Install the new filter seal into the transmission case by applying automatic transmission fluid as lubricant while using a socket of correct size for installation. The technician should begin by fitting the new filter before installing the Oil Pan featuring its new gasket. The technician must tighten all transmission case bolts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) while alternating the sequence properly. First remove the transmission fluid container before positioning the transmission range selector cable bracket and installing and torquing its bolts up to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Adjust the automatic transmission range selector cable then lower the vehicle before filling it with dexron iii transmission fluid at proper levels while checking cold fluid levels for initial fill-up and inspecting Oil Pan gasket for leaks.
