    Q:
How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on GMC Jimmy? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair of the coil spring starts by removing the stabilizer shaft link between the lower Control Arm and shock absorber. Fix the coil spring remover and installer (J 23028-01) to a suitable jack extension so you can cradle the lower Control Arm bushings using this same tool. Your next step involves using the steering wheel to twist it into one position so the linkage clears the front pivot bolt of the lower Control Arm before you take out the bolts. First take off the lower Control Arm pivot bolts and nuts and then remove the lower Control Arm rear pivot bolt with the front pivot bolt. Use the coil spring remover and installer tool (J 23028-01) to reduce front coil spring tension before removing the front coil spring including its insulators while maintaining safe distances from both the lower Control Arm and lower Ball Joint assembly. During front coil spring installation position the spring to expose a single drain inspection hole but leave another drain hole partially or entirely uncovered by the spring. Use the coil spring remover and installer (J 23028-01) to lift and support the Control Arm during installation before seating the coil spring and insulator into the upper frame spring seat. The installation of the lower Control Arm to the frame depends on adequate steering linkage clearance achieved by applying specific bolt installation sequences. Install the lower Control Arm front pivot bolt then add its new nut before installing the lower Control Arm rear pivot bolt together with its new nut. During front suspension load conditions apply 115 nm (85 ft. Lbs.) to the lower Control Arm front pivot bolt and 98 nm (72 ft. Lbs.) to the lower Control Arm rear pivot bolt nut. Replace the coil spring remover and installer (J 23028-01) before you install the shock absorber and stabilizer shaft link to the lower Control Arm. Inspection of the front wheel alignment must be the last step.
