    How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer

    Start by removing the strut from the vehicle with the intention of servicing and repairing the suspension strut. Mount the strut in strut spring compressor (J 45400). Compress the spring when the strut is free, then turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring gets compressed. Relax the compressor forcing screw to remove the upper strut mount and coil spring. Remove the upper strut mount nut by using a 45 t0r0x(R) socket to keep the strut shaft and use a strut rod socket or equivalent to accomplish this. Strut mount-manufacturers and you can remove the upper strut mount and coil spring from the strut spring compressor (J 45400), take the strut out of the compressor. For assembly, go ahead and install the coil spring and upper strut mount back into the strut spring compressor (J 45400) and turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed. Mount the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount, and then only loosely install the strut retaining nut. Using a 45 torx(R) socket, secure the strut shaft; apply a strut rod socket or equivalent to secure the upper strut mount nut, tightening it to 75 n.m (55 lb ft). Finally, bring out the strut from the strut spring compressor (J 45400), and install the strut in the vehicle.
