    Q:
How to service and repair the Throttle Body on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should start Throttle Body repair and service by removing the air cleaner intake duct first. Thoroughly examine both the Throttle Body bore and throttle valve plate for deposits while opening the throttle valve to view all of its surfaces. Strong cleaning solvents such as immersion cleaners should never be used in assemblies with throttle position (TP) sensors, idle air control (IAC) valves or sealed throttle shaft bearings because they can damage electric components while simultaneously damaging seals and o-rings. The use of solvents also causes premature degradation of non-serviceable throttle shaft bearing grease. Use wire-brushes or scrapers only on Throttle Body components or avoid using cleaners with methyl ethyl ketone since these can damage unnecessary throttle parts. Use gm top engine cleaner (GM P/N 1052626 or Canadian P/N 993026) or an equivalent product to clean the Throttle Body bore alongside the throttle valve plate with a clean shop towel. For severe deposits the Throttle Body requires disassembly to clean thoroughly with a parts cleaning brush while maintaining the assembly above all solvents. Throttle Body installation follows cleaning operations then reconnect the air cleaner intake duct.
