Before replacing the Rack And Pinion make sure you lock the Steering Column in position through lock and keep wheels straight to protect the coil assembly. Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) will be used to lock the Steering Column. First disconnect the intermediate shaft lower coupling before you remove the right transaxle mount. The frame must receive proper support until you lower it partially to get to the Rack And Pinion. The Rack And Pinion installation sequence starts with disconnecting pipes 1 & 2 that control pressure and return as well as disconnecting the magna steer electrical connector. Replace the heat shield then disconnect the Steering Knuckle from its outer tie rod ends. First remove bolts that connect the Rack And Pinion assembly before extracting the Rack And Pinion. After placing the new assembly position the Rack And Pinion bolts along each side and torque them to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Follow these installation steps: reconnect the magna steer electrical connector and install the outer tie rod ends and connect pressure line 1 and return line 2 to the Rack And Pinion while applying 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) of torque to both lines. The procedure requires reinstallation of heat shield components while tightening the bolts to 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.). Next, install the right transaxle mount. Put the vehicle down while you mount the intermediate shaft to the Rack And Pinion through the pinch bolt before tightening it to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Signal the end of the service by removing the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) and performing power steering system filling and bleeding steps.
