    Q:
How to Replace the Front Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on Cadillac Eldorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
When replacing the Rack And Pinion, make sure that the wheels of the vehicle are straight and the Steering Column being in the lock position to avoid the damage of the coil assembly. First, raise and support the vehicle, and expulse the tire and the wheel, then the road sensing suspension position sensor. Remove the outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles, detach the lower pinch bolt holding the intermediate shaft to the Rack And Pinion and retrieve the intermediate shaft. Next, you need to remove your slides off the side of the Rack And Pinion and remove the Rack And Pinion heat shield and disconnect variable effort steering machinery connector with electrical harness clips from the Rack And Pinion. Remove the retaining clip of the power steering pressure hose and lift the rear of the frame using a screw jack prior to removing the power steering pressure and return hoses. Take the frame rear body mount bolts and slowly bring down the rear of the frame. Firstly, install a drain pan under the vehicle and unbolt the Rack And Pinion mounting bolt (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5) to pull out the Rack And Pinion through the left-side wheel opening. For installation, you must attach the outer tie rod ends and install Rack And Pinion mounting bolts to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs) in a sequential order. Replace the two hose connectors to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) and lift up the back of frame to mount the frame rear body mounting bolts at 191 nm (141 ft. Lbs.). Renew power steering pressure hose retaining clip, electrical harness clips, and variable effort steering electrical connector and install the plastics line retainers and Rack And Pinion heat shield. Install the outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckles, then attach the intermediate shaft to the Rack And Pinion tightening the lower pinch bolt to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, reinstall road sensing suspension position sensor, tires as well as the wheels, lower the vehicle, bleeding of the power steering, and adjust front toe.
