To remove the old power steering Rack And Pinion, you must first install the steering column anti-rotation pin (J42640) to the steering column. Lift and support the vehicle, take off both front tires and wheels, then the front air deflector. Remove the lower pinch bolt on the intermediate shaft to reduce the risk of the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion stub shaft getting damaged. Before disconnecting the steering column/intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion, the wheels of the vehicle must be straight ahead and the steering column on the lock position. Next, remove the intermediate shaft from the power steering Rack And Pinion of the variable effort steering harness connector. Take off the outer tie rod retaining nuts and use the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J24319-B) to remove the outer tie rod off the steering knuckles. At the vehicle, put on a drain pan and remove down the power steering hoses from the power steering Rack And Pinion retaining bolt and disconnect the power steering hoses from the power steering Rack And Pinion. If you have the 4.6l (LH2) engine, open the left Brake Line, disconnect it from the brake hose, plug it, and leave it to a side; etc. For awd vehicles, support the bottom of the differential housing with a suitable jack, loosen the right top engine mount nut, and lift the differential housing to clear the steering Rack And Pinion bolt. Unscrew the power steering Rack And Pinion mounting bolts and, if the car is fitted with the 4.6l (LH2) engine, remove the left rearward lower Control Arm to frame mounting nut and bolt. Do not angle oil. Remove the power steering Rack And Pinion through the left wheel opening. For installation, drive the power steering Rack And Pinion through the left wheel opening, mount the left rearward lower Control Arm to frame mounting bolt and nut, if equipped with the 4.6 l (LH2), and tighten the power steering Rack And Pinion retaining bolts to 180 nm (134 ft. Lbs.). For awd cars, remove the support from the lower side of the differential housing, lower the differential housing, and tighten the right lower engine mount to the frame nut to 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.). Tighten the left Brake Line to the brake hose by 27 nm (20 inch lbs), assuming the vehicle is equipped with the 4.6l (LH2). Reconnect the power steering hoses on the power steering Rack And Pinion and secure the retaining bolt to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Remove the drain pan, install the outer tie rod to the steering knuckles, tighten nuts to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.), connect the variable effort steering harness connector, reconnect the intermediate shaft to the power steering Rack And Pinion. Mount the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt, torqueing it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs), thereafter mount the tires and wheels, lower the vehicle, remove the j42640 from the steering column, bleed the power steering, and toe the front.
