Outer Tie Rod

The first step to replace a rack and pinion outer Tie Rod end requires tire and wheel assembly removal. First loosen the inner Tie Rod nut of the steering linkage then remove the outer Tie Rod end nut of the rack and pinion. The steering link and Tie Rod puller tool (J 24319-B) will help disconnect the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod end from the Steering Knuckle while noting the total complete turns taken during the removal process. Take the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod end from the connection point with the steering linkage inner Tie Rod. Installation of the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod end to the steering linkage inner Tie Rod must be done with the same number of complete turns as measurement during removal while leaving the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut untightened. Start by placing the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod end on the Steering Knuckle then install its nut and torque it to 55 n.m (41 lb ft). The last step involves tightening the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut before reinstalling the tire and wheel assembly followed by adjustment of the front toe.

You must start replacement of Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End by taking off the tire and wheel assembly. First loosen the outer tie rod jam nut before removing its retaining nut. Detach the outer tie rod by using the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) on the Steering Knuckle while counting the complete turns for alignment reference. Take out the outer tie rod so you can remove it from the inner tie rod. Use the identical number of complete turns when installing which were recorded during removal steps. Secure the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod without applying pressure to its jam nut. Anchor the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle followed by tightening the retaining nut to 70 n.m (52 lb ft). Install the tire along with the wheel and perform front toe adjustment.

The replacement process for a steering linkage outer Tie Rod starts by taking out the tire and wheel combination. First loosen the inner Tie Rod nut of the steering linkage before disconnecting the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End nut. A puller tool (J 24319-B) breaks the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End free from the Steering Knuckle after recording the needed number of complete turns for removal. Then take out the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from its position on the inner Tie Rod of the steering linkage. The rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End must be installed on the steering linkage inner Tie Rod using the noted number of elimination turns while leaving the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut loose during this phase. The rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End should attach to the Steering Knuckle prior to installing the nut which requires a torque of 70 nm (52 lb ft). Fitting the tire and wheel assembly requires the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut to be tightened to 65 nm (48 lb ft). Finally, adjust the front toe.

Vehicle elevation and support are necessary before starting the replacement of Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End (LY7). Begin by removing the tire along with the wheel before you loosen the outer tie rod jam nut while you should also remove the outer tie rod retaining nut. The steering linkage tie rod puller (J 24319-B) should detach the outer tie rod from its position on the Steering Knuckle while you document needed turning numbers for reinstallation. The next step should involve taking the outer tie rod off from the inner tie rod. Repeat the exact number of turns which you recorded during tie rod removal when applying the outer rod to its inner counterpart without securing the jam nut. Secure the outer tie rod onto the Steering Knuckle followed by installation of the outer tie rod retaining nut that needs tightening to 70 n.m (52 lb ft). The wheel needs to be fitted after the tire followed by vehicle lowering while adjusting front toe.

Tighten it to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).

Loosen the outer tie rod jam nut.
