    You first need to open the rear compartment lid to lower the tailgate. Uninstall the liner behind the rear lid and the service panel next to this section. First you need to uninstall both the bell crank and tailgate handle fasteners before taking out the tailgate handle from the rear compartment tailgate access panel. Fit the tailgate handle back into the rear compartment access panel and secure it with tight tailgate handle fasteners at 7 N.m (61 lb in). Place the bell crank in position and fix the fastener at 5 N.m (44 lb in). Put back both the rear compartment tailgate access panel and the rear tailgate liner at the same time. After that complete both inner and outer cargo areas.

    Untuck the rear compartment lid first and let down the tailgate to begin handle replacement. Detach the rear compartment liner and the tailgate access panel from the back of the vehicle. Detach the bell crank and tailgate handle fasteners from the rear compartment tailgate panel before you detach the handle from its access panel on the tailgate. Insert the tailgate handle into the back compartment tailgate entry space and put torque on fasteners according to the Fastener Notice. Place the tailgate handle on the rear compartment access panel before installing its fasteners at 7 N.m (61 lb in). Reinstall the bell crank fastener at 5 N.m (44 lb in). It completes the installation when you replace the rear compartment tailgate panel and liner after putting back the rear compartment tailgate access panel.
