To perform front side door inside handle replacement on a Monte Carlo start by deleting both the front door trim panel and front door water deflector which are attached to the inside front handle. Drilling a 6.35 mm (1/4 in) hole through the rivet on the front inside door handle prepares the handle for new rod and rod lock placement. Move on to remove the front inside door handle from the front door inner panel. Installation begins with inserting the tabs of the new front inside door handle into the slots of the front door inner panel before attaching the lock rod together with the door handle rod to the handle assembly. You should secure the rivet to the front inside door handle before putting back on the water deflector and reinstalling the front door trim panel.

Remove the hole plug.

Attach the lock cylinder retainer clip to the door handle and connect the front door handle rod to the door handle.

Detach the outside door handle rod-to-lock clip from the lock and remove the front door outside handle lock cylinder.

Reinstall the lock cylinder and a NEW outside handle rod-to-lock clip onto the door lock lever, ensuring the handle rod is positioned in the clip to eliminate any free play.

Take out the front inside door handle from the front door inner panel.
