    Q:
How to replace the front side door hinge on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process of replacing the front side door hinge starts with an open front door and the removal of the closeout/insulator panel. The door wire harness requires separation from body wire harnesses before taking off the door harness with its conduit running through the front body hinge pillar. The first step requires removal of the check link cover followed by the check link studs located on the pillar. Both hinges can be installed without intermediate fasteners after you lift the door away. Locate the hinge position on the pillar while removing the pillar fasteners and hinge half from the pillar. At this time position the hinge marks on the door surface while keeping the studplate secure to prevent its drop inside the door. First remove all hinge fasteners from the door and the hinge half from the door parts. Position the pillar half of the hinge according to the removal marks before installing the fasteners to the pillar and tightening them to 30 N.m (22 lb ft). Install hinge fasteners into the door half of the hinge following the marks created in the removal process while tightening them to 34 N.m (24 lb ft). Lower the door until the hinge halves meet each other then tighten the fasteners while using Loctite(R) Blue GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent product. Proceed to install the intermediate door hinge fasteners while tightening them to 24 N.m (18 lb ft). Place the check link arm to the pillar before mounting check link studs on their pillar position them with 9 N.m of tightness (80 lb in force). Place the check link cover at the pillar while feeding the door wire harness along with conduit through the windshield pillar before pulling the grommet to its complete position. The closeout/insulator panel receives both the door wire harness and body wire harness before installation. Check the door alignment before finishing paint touch-ups on both the hinge and its fasteners.
