    Q:
How to service the steering column on Chevrolet Cavalier? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, raise the vehicle on a hoist, and remove the left tire and wheel assembly as a means of servicing the Steering Shaft. If necessary, relocate the intermediate Steering Shaft seal to reveal the bottom pinch bolt, and this bolt should then be pulled from the steering gear. Lower the vehicle and reposition the intermediate steering portion again to gain access to the upper pinch bolt that also needs to be pulled out of the Steering Column. When you have removed the intermediate Steering Shaft and the sequence from the vehicle, put the intermediate Steering Shaft and the sequence back on the vehicle. In case the Steering Column to cowl panel seal is damaged, it should be changed to ensure that people do not take carbon monoxide in their vehicles that poses major health issues. Install the upper pinch bolt to the Steering Column and fasten it with a 17 nm (12 ft. Lbs.) fastener. Lift up the vehicle once more to attach the lower pinch bolt to the steering gear, tightening it to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Finally, install the left tire and wheel assembly before putting down the vehicle.
