    Q:
How to Properly Replace a Shift Knob on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace a shift knob includes activating parking brake while setting the key to "RUN" position without vehicle start. Set the shift lever on one of the positions designated for low gear operation. A small flat blade tool needs to be carefully inserted between the trim ring and the shift knob to create separation which enables the trim ring to drop 13.0mm (0.5 inch) and disclose the retaining screw of the shift knob. Start by turning the shift knob screw four or five times clockwise but do not fully remove the screw. Then pull the shift knob from its position on the shift lever. When mounting the shift knob apply it to the shift lever before installing the knob screw and tightening it to 1.5 Nm torque (13 inch lbs. torque). Push the shift knob trim ring upwards until you hear the audible click that means it is locked into position on the shift knob. The shift knob button functioning must be verified across all gear ranges after securely placing the shift in PARK position while rotating the key into off position.

    Q:
How to replace the shift knob on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
The procedure requires deploying the parking brake and rotating the key to the RUN position before attempting the replacement of the shift knob. Insert the lever of the shift knob into one of its low gear settings. Use a small flat bladed tool to lift the shift knob trim ring yet keep it 13.0mm (0.5 inch) below its original position to show the shift knob retaining screw. The shift knob screw requires you to turn it loosely by 4 to 5 turns before you pull out the shift knob from the shift control lever. To install this component place the shift knob onto the shift control lever before fastening the knob screw at 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.). You will hear a clicking sound when you lift the shift knob trim ring and successfully attach it to the shift knob. Check the shift knob button's proper operation in all available gears while keeping the shift control lever in PARK position and the key rotated to off.
