    Q:
How to replace the lower intake manifold on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
Draining the cooling system should be your first step followed by removing the upper Intake Manifold and heater inlet pipe and separating the radiator inlet hose from the Thermostat Housing. After filling the cooling system owners should reinstall the Fuel Rail assembly followed by installing the radiator inlet hose to the Thermostat Housing and the heater inlet pipe then the upper Intake Manifold. Start by removing the Thermostat and housing and continue with the rocker arms and push rods and finally the lower Intake Manifold gaskets if a new lower Intake Manifold is installed. Clean all gasket mating surfaces by using gm p/n 12346139 (Canadian P/N 10953463) or an equivalent cleaning agent and avoid placing rtv sealer on the engine block before installing manifold gaskets. Install first the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and then the rocker arms, push rods, lower Intake Manifold seals. Install the lower Intake Manifold following an rtv sealer application with gm p/n 12346141 (Canadian P/N 10953433). New fasteners provide optimal gasket performance when fitted with thread-locking patches or when old fasteners receive a thread-locking chemical application. All lower Intake Manifold bolts require gm p/n 1234382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent for cleaning up and clearing off foreign materials. Proper torque distribution requires complete center bolt torque before moving to diagonal bolts with specific torque settings attainable through crows foot type tools targeting locations and . On the first pass, tighten the lower Intake Manifold bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) in sequence to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.), then on the final pass, tighten them to 13 nm (115 inch lbs.)after initial light tightening (5, 6, 7, 8), torque the bolts in a specified order to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The final procedure requires re-mounting the Fuel Rail assembly while attaching the radiator inlet hose to the Thermostat Housing then installing the heater inlet pipe and upper Intake Manifold before completing the cooling system fill-up.
