The replacement process for the Engine Control Module (ECM) requires users to disable ignition power because handling pcm connectors and power connections could lead to internal ecm damage. Use a scan tool to gather the engine oil and automatic transmission fluid percent lifespan information because not setting replacement values on the new module will reset them to 100 percent so that it triggers an oil change at 5,000 km (3,000 mi) and automatic transmission fluid change at 83,000 km (50,000 mi) from previous changes. The battery negative cable needs to be disconnected followed by suspension and support of the vehicle before removing the front air deflector . Follow this process to detach the ecm electrical connectors then remove its mounting nuts before taking out the ecm. The new ecm installation requires users to place the module into the vehicle before tightening the mounting nuts to 8 n.m (71 lb in) while reattaching ecm electrical connectors before reinstalling the front air deflector. Lower the vehicle while reconnecting the battery negative cable before performing required ecm programming.

Place the new ECM in the vehicle, secure it with the mounting nuts tightened to 8 N.m (71 lb in), reconnect the ECM electrical connectors, reinstall the front air deflector, lower the vehicle, and reconnect the battery negative cable.

Install the front compartment sight shield, program the ECM, and turn OFF the ignition for at least 5 seconds after programming is complete.
