• Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2007 Cadillac STS?

  A: Before replacing the Engine Control Module (ECM) users need to turn off the ignition and obtain the remaining engine oil and automatic transmission fluid life percentages using a scan tool. A dvom should be used to check voltage at the underhood Fuse block for the ecm/tcm/ign Fuse and tcm/batt Fuse while the front compartment sight shield is removed. Start by removing power using a negative cable disconnect followed by removing tcm/batt and ecm/tcm/ign fuses from the underhood Fuse block. The connector pins should never be touched because electrostatic discharge could harm the system. The installation of a new ecm begins by removing its bracket and then extracting it from its position while disconnecting both front and rear engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
