    Q:
How to replace the rear Motor and Transmission Mount on Chevrolet Cavalier? Posted by Customer
    A:
A block of wood spanning the Oil Pan bottom width should first be inserted between the jack support and the Oil Pan for protection. A utility stand with a jack will lift the transmission/transaxle to remove mount weight and create a slight stretching effect. The transmission/transaxle mount should be inspected for cracks on the rubber surface and separation from the metal plate and splits that run through the center. Replace all components that show cracked rubber surfaces that have separated from metal plates or include splits which pass through the center. Avoid any damage to the Oil Pan bottom between jack support during replacement. Movement detected between the metal plate and transmission requires fastening mount hardware to manufacturer specifications. Keep the rear transaxle mount bolts loose while leaving them in place before using a lift to support the vehicle. To disassemble this unit start by placing a wood block together with a jack stand under the transaxle then unfasten the through-bolt connecting the rear transaxle mount followed by removing the rear transaxle mount bolts before removing the mount itself. When fitting the rear transaxle begin by positioning it into place then follow service precautions fastener notice protocol before tightening the rear transaxle mounting bolts. Insert the transaxle mount through-bolt and torque it to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). Then remove the jack stand and wood block and lower the vehicle. Finish by installing and tightening the rear bolts to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.).
