    Q:
How to replace the power steering pump on Chevrolet Prizm? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace a Power Steering Pump includes draining power steering fluid from the reservoir followed by removing the serpentine Drive Belt. The first step involves disconnecting the inlet hose fitting of the power steering gear as well as the inlet pipe/hose from the pump then disconnecting the outlet hose from the power steering fluid reservoir from the pump. Position the vehicle on stands while performing the following tasks: tire removal and wheel removal from the right-hand front side. You must first remove the six bolts on the rh lower engine splash shield then take off the two Power Steering Pump bolts, two nuts, and Power Steering Pump with pulley. Mount the Power Steering Pump and pulley assembly in a soft jawed vise before taking out the pulley and its nut from the pump. When installing the Power Steering Pump position it in the vise after which install the pulley before tightening the pulley nut to 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). After installing the Power Steering Pump together with its pulley and two bolts the two nuts need tightening to 37 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Proceed by fastening six bolts to secure the rh lower engine splash shield and tighten them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) before reinstalling the rh front tire wheel assembly and lowering the vehicle. Screw the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose to the pump while tightening the hose clamp. Then apply the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to its fitting before tightening it to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). Next, you must adjust the serpentine Drive Belt before installing it. Power steering fluid should be added to the reservoir while conducting system bleeding of the power steering.
