2000 Chevrolet Prizm Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The Power Steering Pump replacement process starts with draining power steering fluid from the reservoir followed by belt removal. The Power Steering Pump maintenance begins with disconnecting the inlet hose fitting and inlet pipe from the gear then unscrewing and removing the outlet hose from the fluid reservoir. A technician should first lift and stabilize the vehicle then remove its right front tire with wheel and afterward undo the six bolts securing the right-hand lower engine splash shield. You need to remove both Power Steering Pump bolts followed by the two nuts and take off the Power Steering Pump with its attached pulley. Place a soft jawed vise around the pump and pulley before you uninstall the pulley nut along with the pulley from the pump. The installation process requires placing the Power Steering Pump into the vise before putting on the pulley which should be torqued to 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Power Steering Pump, its pulley along with two bolts, and two nuts but tighten the nuts to 37 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Secure the rh lower engine splash shield back with six bolts which need to be tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) before re-adding the rh front tire and wheel assembly while lowering the vehicle. After installing the hose outlet from the power steering fluid reservoir to the pump with the clamp, connect the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose then tighten all fittings to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). After belt installation the driver should adjust it properly before adding fresh fluid into the Power Steering Reservoir. The power steering system requires bleeding to achieve appropriate operation before finishing the installation.
