2000 Chevrolet Prizm Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the tie rod end on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Begin all Tie Rod End servicing processes by supporting the vehicle during elevation followed by disassembly of the wheel and tire unit. Mark the tie rod's outer section with a match mark in addition to the inner tie rod nut and inner tie rod. You must first loosen the inner tie rod nut before removing the outer tie rod's cotter pin to finally remove the outer tie rod nut. Disconnect the knuckle-bound outer tie rod with the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) before removing the outer tie rod. Before tightening the inner tie rod nut, properly set matchmarks during installation by joining the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod. Install the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle after you confirm compliance with the fastener notice in service precautions. Attach the outer tie rod to its similar position then tighten the outer tie rod nut to 49 nm (36 ft. Lbs.). Adjust the nut by another 1/6 turn beyond alighting the cotter pin slot but keep it below 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). The outer tie rod nut stays tightened while you insert the cotter pin through the hole within the tie rod stud. When performing toe adjustment ensure the Rack and Pinion Boot remains untwisted with no puckering then adjust the front toe by tightening the jam nut against the outer tie rod to 56 nm (41 ft. Lbs.).
