    Q:
How to Replace an Inner Tie Rod for Magnasteer Steering on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for inner Tie Rod replacement requires boot rack removal and Tie Rod inspection then you can begin your work. Making adjustment to the steering gear preload is unnecessary when using a vise to securely hold the gear during service. The shock dampener should be removed from the inner Tie Rod housing to slide it back onto the rack. Put a pipe wrench on the rack that is adjacent to the inner Tie Rod housing while using a wrench to turn the flats of the housing counterclockwise until it separates from the rack. Complete this action once again for inner Tie Rod housing and inner Tie Rod. Clean the threads of the inner Tie Rod as well as the rack whenever old loctite(R) residue is present. Before attachment install the shock dampener onto the rack while maintaining clean threads then sweden to the inner Tie Rod threads when needed. To install the inner Tie Rod on the rack you will need a pipe wrench and torque wrench equipped with j 34028 while tightening to 100 nm (74 lb ft). Incidentally staking the female inner Tie Rod assembly housing to the male rack requires checking with a 0.25 mm gage to validate appropriate staking. The shock dampener should slide completely over the inner Tie Rod housing before final assembly of the Rack and Pinion Boot.

    Q:
How to replace the inner tie rods in the steering linkage on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process for inner tie rods in steering linkage begins with removing the steering gear along with investigations into inner Tie Rod condition after boot removal to determine whether replacements should be made to the steering gear. Install the steering gear in a vise after removing its 2 steering gear boots and breather tubes while maintaining the preload adjustment position. Move the left shock dampener off the left inner Tie Rod housing through the rack while holding the pipe wrench in the proper place to protect from damage. A pipe wrench on the rack next to the left inner Tie Rod housing should be accompanied by a wrench on the housing flats for counterclockwise rotation to detach it from the rack. Use this method again to detach the right inner Tie Rod. Clean all threads from the female rack on the steering gear before removing previous loctite(R) 262 and applying the compound to left inner Tie Rod threads before fitting it onto the rack. Use the torque wrench fitted with pipe wrench j-34028 to apply 100 nm (74 lb ft) of torque force on the left inner Tie Rod. You should use loctite(R) 262 for the right inner Tie Rod threads when installing the component while following the same step of tightening as before. Both female inner Tie Rod housings need to be staked to the male rack components before testing their proper fit with a 0.25 mm gauge. Reinstall the steering gear into the vehicle after installing both shock dampeners onto their inner Tie Rod housings with proper attachment of steering gear boots and breather tubes.
