    Q:
How to replace the steering linkage outer tie rod on Cadillac STS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step before changing the steering linkage outer Tie Rod is to remove the tire and wheel assembly. First loosen the inner Tie Rod nut of the steering linkage before eliminating the outer Tie Rod End nut on the rack and pinion assembly. Through utilization of puller (J 24319-B) personnel can disconnect the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from the Steering Knuckle while noting the total turns required for removal. The technician should disconnect the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from both the steering linkage inner Tie Rod and its mounting position on the Steering Knuckle. The steering linkage inner Tie Rod should receive the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End at the same number of turns recorded during dismantling but avoid tightening the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut during this installation step. Fasten the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End onto the Steering Knuckle and install the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End nut which should be torqued until it reaches 70 nm (52 lb ft). Try to fasten the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut to 65 nm (48 lb ft) before reinstalling the tire and wheel assembly. Finally, adjust the front toe.
