Front Sensor

A vehicle with damaged regions from collision must receive a new sir/side Air Bag Sensor together with the replacement of any area between the accident where crushing or bending occurred. In cases of a moderate frontal collision with a tree impact the sir sensor mounted in front of the Radiator must be replaced even if air bag deployment does not occur or the sensor shows no signs of physical damage. Testing the sensor for internal damage proves to be impossible because slight bracket bent or wire insulation cuts could disable the sir/side air bag sensing system therefore it should be replaced without inspection. The sensor replacement is necessary whenever the diagnostic trouble code table indicates sensor malfunction.

The sir/side Air Bag Sensor requires replacement when installed in regions affected by car collision damage which includes all vehicle areas that experience crushing or bending or sustained visible damage during the accident such as moderate tree impacts. Replacement of an sir sensor located forward of the Radiator becomes necessary even when air bags have not deployed and the sensor shows no signs of damage. The sir/side air bag sensing system requires a sensor replacement because slight bending of mounting brackets and wire insulation damage cannot be inspected thus affecting sensor performance thus demanding immediate replacement. The replacement of faulty sensors becomes necessary when diagnostic trouble codes appear within the system.

The sensor must be replaced in the area of accident damage, including any portion of the vehicle that is crushed, bent, or damaged due to a collision.

First, disable the SIR system and remove the front air deflector.

Remove the SIS mounting fasteners and take out the SIS from the center pillar sheetmetal.

Position the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle.

Ensure that the inflatable restraint side impact sensor is not struck or jolted, and confirm it is securely fastened to avoid deployment or injury.
