    Q:
How to service and repair the Leaf Spring Shackle on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
In servicing and repairing the shackle, raise and support the vehicle and support the rear axle first. Once removed, pull out the Leaf Spring in order to spring shackle mounting bolt (N/A) then nut (N/A) followed by the shock absorber lower mounting bolt (N/A) and nut (N/A). Make sure the axle is not swinging from the brake hose or it will become damaged; never to lean on the axle and body at the same time. Lay the car back on its wheels & loosen the rear axle. Please take off the spring shackle mounting nut (N/A) followed by the spring shackle mounting bolt (N/A) and finally the spring shackle. For installation start with installing the spring shackle to the frame and then the spring shackle mounting bolt(N/A). Mount the spring shackle mounting nut (N/A) and torqued to 140 nm (103 ft. Lbs.). Cause the rear axle and drive the lower part of the shock absorber and the mounting bolt will be installed with nut; fix the nut in 107 nm / (79 ft. Lbs). Then, install the Leaf Spring to spring shackle mounting bolt (N/A) and nut (N/A) and tighten the nut at 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Finally, dismantle the rear axle support and lower the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the Leaf Spring Shackle on GMC Safari? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before starting the replacement of the spring shackle you must first raise and support the vehicle and securely set the rear axle. Start the procedure by loosening the Leaf Spring to spring shackle mounting bolt (N/A) together with the nut (N/A), next go ahead and remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt (N/A) and nut (N/A), keep the axle supported so the brake hose remains off the surface to stop damage. Start with lowering the rear axle and complete removal of the spring shackle mounting nut (N/A) before proceeding to the spring shackle mounting bolt (N/A) as well as the spring shackle itself. The installation process starts with spring shackle mounting to the frame after which follows spring shackle mounting bolt (N/A) and spring shackle mounting nut (N/A). Tighten both components to 140 nm (103 ft. Lbs.). After lifting the rear axle position the lower shock absorber mounting bolt (N/A) and nut (N/A) by tightening the nut to 107 nm (79 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the Leaf Spring to spring shackle mounting bolt (N/A) and nut (N/A) while torquing the nut to 100 nm (74 ft.-lbs.). The last step involves the removal of rear axle support before lowering the vehicle.

    Q:
How to service and repair the Leaf Spring Shackle on GMC Safari? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair of the shackle starts with removing the rear spring from the fastener. The service and repair process requires first removing the shackle nut followed by separating the shackle bolt before pulling off the shackle from the frame. Installation requires you to connect the shackle to the frame and implement the shackle bolt as described by the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Secure the shackle nut after the bolt installation. Tighten both components to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.). After installation of the rear spring onto the shackle tighten the nut to a torque of 100 Nm which equals 74 ft. lbs.
