You must first raise the vehicle before you can proceed with replacement of the Shock Absorber. Start by uninstalling the tire coupled with wheel before disconnecting the air line that extends from the shock's top surface. Secure the lower Control Arm with a screw jack to free the spring tension then uninstall the Shock Absorber lower hardware. You can easily detach the upper mounting nut by using strut rod nut socket (J35669). This tool also permits removal of the retainer and insulator. Hand compress the Shock Absorber while removing it through the upper Control Arm opening. The inspection for Shock Absorber insulators should include checks for cracks and tears as well as a search for any other signs of damage with replacement needed for faulty components. To install the Shock Absorber mount its top section with the attached insulator into the suspension support before securing the upper shock insulator and retainer along with the nut. The technician needs to tighten the upper Shock Absorber nut to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.) and the lower Shock Absorber nut to 102 nm (75 ft. Lbs.). The air line should be secured to both the strut top while connecting the Shock Absorber air line to the rear suspension support. The last installation step involves putting a wheel along with tire on the vehicle. Before the vehicle descent on its wheels activate the ignition for 45 seconds to permit the alc system to finish the arc process ensuring shock absorbers have enough residual pressure.

Wear safety glasses when center punching and drilling the shock absorber, and take care not to puncture the shock absorber tube.

Position the top of the shock absorber with the insulator attached in the suspension support, then install the upper shock insulator, retainer, and nut.
