Fuel Tank

The first step for replacing the Fuel Tank module includes cleaning fuel pipe connections alongside hose connections and related areas to stop contamination from occurring. After removing the Fuel Tank, the evap line quick connect fittings must be removed from both the module and the vent valve. Then remove the evap line from its Fuel Tank clip before breaking the tank retaining features. You should disconnect the fuel feed line quick connect fitting from the module before extracting it from the Fuel Tank retaining feature. The tool j 45722 provides fuel sender lock ring unlock by turning it counterclockwise for module removal. Next, lift the module out from the tank while tilting it to clear the sensor arm before removing it. Before disposal toss away the Fuel Pump module seal while draining remaining fuel contents into a suitable fire safety container. The sealing surface requires cleaning and you need to check the lock ring for damage; replace it when it becomes warped to more than 0.41 mm (0.016 in). The installation process requires you to use a new fuel sender gasket and to clean the male Fuel Pump module pipe ends before applying a new tank module seal on the Fuel Tank. Position the Fuel Pump module next before lowering it to match the tang with the tank notch. Utilize j 45722 to install the lock ring but confirm the proper orientation with the clockwise rotation direction. First the fuel feed line quick connect fitting goes to the module until you can engage its retaining feature then the evap line fittings connect to the module and vent valve with the retaining features secured into the clip on the Fuel Tank side. Finally, reinstall the Fuel Tank.
