    Q:
How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on Cadillac Catera? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement of the Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) requires a step of refrigerant recovery. Remove the evaporator tube extension bolt together with the LF floor air outlet duct followed by the removal of vacuum solenoid/cutoff valve actuator screws before disconnecting the actuator connectors to move the actuators aside. Proceed by removing the evaporator access panel screws after which you can detach the access panel itself along with the evaporator tube screw followed by the evaporator tube. End the replacement process by removing the TXV screws before extracting the TXV. Install the new TXV by placing it with new O-rings which received mineral oil 525 viscosity lubrication before tightening the TXV screws to 8 N.m (71 lb in). You should install the evaporator tube while using new O-rings that have received mineral oil lubrication of 525 viscosity and torque the tube screw to 5 N.m (44 lb in). Secure the evaporator access panel by attaching its screws until they reach full seating without stripping. Mount vacuum solenoid or cutoff valve actuators in their position before fully tightening their screws while reattaching the actuator connectors. The LF floor air outlet and the evaporator tube extension bolt must be reinstall and tightened to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Conduct the evacuation of the A/C system followed by recharging it while performing a fitting leak test on the repaired or reinstalled part using J 39400-A.
