    Q:
How to replace the front door opening Weather Strip on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
Removing the carpet retainer should be your first step before changing the front door opening Weather Strip. Start at the joint below the door opening then carefully detach the Weather Strip from the door opening flange by pulling it away while completing the removal around its entire circumference. The Weather Strip installation process starts at the respective paint dots marked on each piece where one mark indicates the rh side and two marks indicate the lh side. Papermark the first Weather Strip installation point in the upper corner of the center pillar after which you should position the strip on the door opening flange and completely seat the carrier at each corner as you work your way down from the rear. The installer should start at the center pillar before moving toward the front to place the Weather Strip on both the roof rail and the front body hinge pillar flange but should make sure the carrier properly fits the corners throughout the installation. A rubber mallet should be used for proper placement of the Weather Strip on every part of the door opening flange. You need a plastic trim stick or similar tool to put the closeout lip in position over the interior trim bordering the door opening. Alternatively you can employ the pull-string beneath the closeout lip of new Weather Strip. Finally, reinstall the carpet retainer.
