2000 Buick Century Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the brake master cylinder on 2000 Buick Century?
A: Keeping the screw that holds the primary spring steady on the secondary Piston is essential since any change can cause brake defects. You can check and fix the reservoir cap and diaphragm parts of the Brake Master Cylinder without detaching it from the vehicle. Start by taking out the master cylinder followed by cleaning the reservoir cap and removing it plus the diaphragm. You should replace the parts if they show cuts, cracks, nicks, or sign of deformation. Drop the primary Piston slowly until the retainer and reservoir are free from their positions while keeping the bore surface safe. Use air pressure in the upper bore chamber to extract the primary Piston, secondary Piston, spring, and spring retainer with a non-lubricated air stream. Look inside the secondary Piston for damage on the master cylinder then switch out the part if needed. Use clean denatured alcohol and non-lubricated compressed air to clean all parts before blowing them dry with air. Put grease on master cylinder seals before you install them and the spring retainer onto the secondary Piston. Then fit the spring and secondary Piston into the cylinder to finish their assembly by applying brake fluid for easier handling. Put the oiled primary Piston into the cylinder space then push it down while placing the holder on top. Place the reservoir components back in and put the diaphragm through the reservoir cap. Afterward seal the cap and reattach the master cylinder unit.
