2000 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2000 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Start by detaching the torque axis mount then remove the Drive Belt as well as the Drive Belt tensioner assembly and the crankshaft balancer. Remove the crankshaft sensor shield along with sensor and Oil Pan to engine front cover bolts before using the engine front cover attaching bolts to remove the engine front cover. Study how much the Timing Chain can move without going beyond 25 mm (1 inch) of movement and check the state of the timing sprockets for wear. Clear up the Timing Chain cover space from gasket contact regions with the cylinder block and remove the Oil Pan when its gasket becomes excessively expanded for gasket replacement. Start by installing the engine front cover gasket and engine front cover using the torque angle meter (J36660-A). During installation apply gm p/n 12346004 or equivalent sealant to the bolt threads. Tighten the engine front cover attaching bolts to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) the torque angle meter (J36660-A) helps users apply an additional 40 degree rotation to each bolt. Secure the Oil Pan to the threaded engine front cover bolts using a torque setting of 14 nm (125 inch lbs.). Install the Drive Belt tensioner first but avoid making changes to the crankshaft sensor before mounting the crankshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor shield. Install the crankshaft balancer and bolt and the Drive Belt before installing the torque axis mount to finish by relearning the ckp variation.
