To replace the engine front cover, you need to collect the tools: torque angle meter (J 36660-A). Start with the removal of the right
Engine Mount Bracket, the drive belt tensioner assembly, crankshaft balancer, crankshaft sensor shield, and crankshaft sensor. Next, remove the
Oil Pan to engine front cover bolts and the engine front cover attaching bolts, then remove the engine front cover. Check the
Timing Chain to assure that it can move no more than 25 mm (1 inch) and the timing sprockets for wear. Clean the gasket mating surfaces at the cylinder block and if Oil Pan is gasket has swollen to excess, remove Oil Pan and change the gasket. Check and clean the engine front cover prior to installation. Install the engine front cover gasket with the front cover to covered threads using sealant gm p/n 12346004 or equivalent. Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 20n m (15 ft. Lbs.) and rotate bolts with the bottom half of the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) for 40 degrees. Next, install the Oil Pan to the engine front cover bolts, which requires tightening them to 14 nm (125 inch lbs), then the drive belt tensioner assembly. Do not move the crankshaft sensor now, then attach the crankshaft sensor and shield. Finally, fit the crank shaft balancer and bolt, fit the right Engine Mount Bracket back.
