2000 Cadillac Catera Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2000 Cadillac Catera?
A: First open the electrical center cover while pushing the tab so it can release from the battery then open the battery isolator to disconnect the battery negative cable by unfastening the clamp bolt while twisting the clamp. A universal puller tool should be used if needed. Begin by removing the tie straps holding the ground wires at the negative Battery Cable then physically disconnect these wires from the cable. Lift the vehicle until it reaches a suitable height before taking out the negative Battery Cable from the a/c compressor bracket by unscrewing the bolt and removing the connected cable. First lock a three-foot mechanic's wire to the end of the battery negative cable then lower the vehicle. Pull the battery negative cable upwards to reveal the mechanic's wire then take out the wire while ensuring it maintains proper placement behind the thermostat housing extension and Power Steering Pump. To install the new battery negative cable use the mechanic's wire to lower the car until the cable becomes visible and then remove the wire. Drive the battery negative cable to the a/c compressor bracket through the cable and bolt installation while using a 25 n.m (18 lb ft) tightening torque. The installation process requires the following steps: attaching tie straps to the battery negative cable, connecting harness ground wires, reattaching the battery negative cable, closing the battery isolator and lastly reconnecting the electrical center over the battery then closing the cover.
