2001 Cadillac Catera Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2001 Cadillac Catera?
A: Start by opening the electrical center cover. You must push the tab to free the electrical center from the battery. After that you can open the battery isolator. Begin by cutting the negative Battery Cable power and then stripping back all harness ground wiring. Finally, loosen all ties securing the Battery Cable itself. First support the vehicle on stands before unbolting the negative Battery Cable bracket bolt from the a/c compressor bracket then disconnect the negative Battery Cable. You will need to attach a three-foot mechanic's wire to the end of the negative Battery Cable. Lower the vehicle afterward and pull the cable until the mechanic's wire becomes visible before removing the wire for proper routing behind the thermostat housing extension and the Power Steering Pump. During installation connect the mechanic's wire to the new negative Battery Cable then raise the vehicle to bring the cable into view before removing the wire. At the a/c compressor bracket connect the negative Battery Cable then lock it into place using the negative Battery Cable bracket bolt tightened to 25 n.m (18 lb feet). Perform the following sequence after lowering the vehicle: install tie straps to the negative Battery Cable then reconnect the harness ground wires before connecting the final negative Battery Cable. Finish by closing both the battery isolator and reinstalling the electrical center to battery before closing its cover.
