2000 Cadillac Catera Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2000 Cadillac Catera?
A: As a first step, disconnect the wiring harness from the ckp sensor pigtail and use a 36-inch piece of scrap wire to attach it securely because this will serve as your pull wire for later use. You should initially support the vehicle in elevation next follow up by loosening the engine block oil cooler lines. The resulting space should allow access for the sensor pigtail connector installation. The fastening bolt securing the ckp sensor needs removal to extract the ckp sensor and its attached o-ring seal from the engine block. Follow the sensor pigtail into position by carefully lowering the connector through its designated route between oil cooler lines and the engine block where it should reach its widest gap. Stop pulling it when both ends of the pull wire become visible. Remove the sensor from its pull wire connection. Installation of the ckp sensor pigtail requires long-term attachment to the pull wire base while guiding the pigtail connector through the engine block space between oil cooler lines. Guide the sensor pigtail toward the back of the engine using the pull wire while it moves along the top of the two oil cooler lines. Remove the pull wire from the sensor pigtail after completion. Before placing the ckp sensor inside the engine block you should clean both its mating surfaces with the engine block and install a new o-ring seal. Next install the ckp sensor into position. Use a 8 n.m (6 lb ft) torque to fasten the ckp sensor bolt. After ruling out Exhaust Manifold contact with the harness you should fasten the oil cooler lines to the engine block and install the Oil Filter then lower the vehicle before inspecting the engine oil level once more.
