Cadillac Catera Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on Cadillac Catera?
    A:
To change the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor, disconnect the wiring harness from the ckp sensor pigtail and wire securely to a piece of scrap wire about 36 in. Of length for use later as a pull wire. Lift and support the vehicle, loosen the oil cooler lines on the engine block to allow enough room from the sensor pigtail connector. Remove the fastening bolt for the ckp sensor and remove the ckp sensor and the o-ring seal from the engine block and remove the ckp sensor pigtail observing its routing as you pull it down through the path. Direction the pigtail connector over the top of the engine block oil cooler lines to the side of the engine block, where the wire passes between the lines and the engine block at the widest joint of the lines and the block, making an end stop when the pull wire is exposed out from both ends of the connector. Pull the sensor off the pull wire. For the installation, firmly attach the ckp sensor pigtail to the lower end of the pull wire and pass the pigtail connector between the oil cooler lines and the engine block. Another approach is to use the pull wire to consider the sensor pigtail along the top of the oil cooler lines to the rear engine and then pull the wire from the sensor pigtail. Secure the sensor pigtail by connecting to the harness, clean the mating surfaces of the ckp sensor and the engine block clean, and install the ckp sensor with a new o-ring seal, into engine block. Fasten the ckp sensor bolt and tighten it to 8 n.m (71 Ib in). Check the routing of the harness to ensure it does not touch the Exhaust Manifold, then tighten the oil cool lines to the engine block to 30 n.m (22 lb ft). Finally, lower the vehicle and resume inspection of the oil intensity of the motor.
